I designed this two piece outfit inspired by Christian Diors the ‘New Look Bar Suit’. Using the notable Dior features, peplum waist, shoulder pads and pleating. With the help of my mother who is an experienced pattern maker, we designed my blazer and skirt from scratch. The mid length skirt is an A-line silhouette, with sunray pleated polyester silky georgette fabric. The back of the skirt has a center back zip with a hook closure in the waistband. The outer lining is sheer, to aid this there is a high sheen stain lining. The single-breasted jacket is embroided brocade with a lustrous weave. There are shoulder pads to add structure and intensify the shape of the wearer. The collar is L-shaped followed with three keyhole buttons down the centre front of the jacket. The buttons are glass lustrous black diamantes, one of kind sourced. The sleeves are straight, with two panels for ease of movement. The peplum has a V-shaped opening and is slightly shaved back to reveal the three layers of sunray pleated organza. The pleats edges are overlocked to create a fluting effect.
